Inner Child is the second studio album by American R&B singer Shanice, released November 19, 1991 on Motown Records. The album peaked at number 13 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart. The lead single "I Love Your Smile" peaked at on the US Billboard Hot 100 and on the R&B charts. The album also features a remake of Minnie Riperton's 1974 hit "Lovin' You" which hit on the R&B Singles chart in the summer of 1992. Shanice would cover the song for a second time on her 2006 album Every Woman Dreams.

In popular psychology and analytical psychology, inner child is an individual's childlike aspect. It includes what a person learned as a child, before puberty. The inner child is often conceived as a semi-independent subpersonality subordinate to the waking conscious mind. The term has therapeutic applications in counseling and health settings. Psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) is often referenced as the originator of the concept in his divine child archetype. Shanice would cover the song for a second time on her 2006 album Every Woman Dreams
Your inner child is that part of you that never entirely grew up. Your inner child still has child-like fears and insecurities, and it also has child-like faith, innocence and dreams. The mere term ‘inner-child’ has gotten a bad rap because it sounds so woo-woo, doesn’t it? But it is a good term for acknowledging the child like qualities that are still alive within you. Embracing your inner child and giving him or her a voice is very healing, because your inner child may still believe that it’s not aloud to have a voice. Think about your life when you were a child. What fears were placed upon.
This album offers a collection of chants and lullabies, both traditional and contemporary. The inspiration to record this collection of songs came to me one night as I was singing my children to sleep. As I sat rocking my youngest child, it came to me that the singing my children found so calming and nourishing could extend beyond their rooms. I was doing inner child work at the time, personally and in my practice as a counselor.
This album is truly a blessing. -Justine Toms, The Journal of New Dimensions Radio, Volume 23, Number 1. I have been extremely moved by Shaina Noll's Songs For The Inner Child. It's a collection of lullabies and 'reminders' that evoke feelings which reach deeply into the most innocent and open part of ourselves. She gives you all the words to each song and you can sing to your children and listen for yourself.
