My Dusty Road can, however, be considered a significant sonic upgrade. Some of the metal discs were damaged, but enough was salvageable - and able to be cleaned up with modern technology - that this collection (including six alternate versions Guthrie never released elsewhere) culled from that basement can now be considered a worthy new piece of the Guthrie canon. Divided into four thematic segments - Woody's "Greatest" Hits, Woodys Roots, Woody the Agitator, and Woody, Cisco and Sonny (.
My Dusty Road is a 4 CD box set of Woody Guthrie music containing 54 tracks and a book. It is a collection of the newly discovered Stinson master discs. It was released by Rounder Records in 2009. According to the album liner notes by Ed Cray and Bill Nowlin, the master discs were housed in the basement of the Brooklyn apartment of Lucia Sutera.
It's nearly impossible to fathom that recordings so alive and important sat untouched in a Brooklyn basement for six decades, but that's how the story of My Dusty Road begins. Long story short: an elderly woman had inherited a cache of some 2,000 metal disc recordings cut in the 1940s for Herbert Harris, owner of the Stinson Records label, and Moses Asch, who went on to found Folkways Records.
Guitar, Vocals, Mandolin, Fiddle – Woody Guthrie. Harmonica – Sonny Terry. Comes in a little cardboard suitcase with the CD's in sleeves, a 64-page book and replica's of an old postcard, Woody's businesscard and a booking notice. 1-13, 3-8, 3-10, 4-3, 4-13, 4-15 previously unreleased.
For that alone, My Dusty Road, which collects the bulk of those sessions, is a treasure for historians and Guthrie fans alike. And Rounder has packaged them as such: the set arrives in a small, roadworn suitcase containing reproductions of the folkie's business card, a postcard from Florida to his wife back in New York, and a notice of booking from 1947. There are also novella-length liner notes that not only recount Guthrie's career but document in technical detail the process of discovering, organizing, remastering, and releasing these recordings

Woody Guthrie was born July 12, 1912 making this the centenary of his birth. My Dusty Road' is a great way to appreciate the music of Woody Guthrie to mark the occasion. Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen and almost every singer songwriter you can name owes a debt to Woody Guthrie. Everyone knows at least one Woody Guthrie song, probably & Land is Your Land'. There have been celebrations all over the world in remembrance of his life and music. I wanted to revisit Woody's music apart from his social significance.
Paired with an artful book that spins the tale of these sides and their place in Woody's world by Guthrie historian Ed Cray and Rounder co-founder Bill Nowlin, these four CDs are a superb introduction to an artist whose influence extends to Dylan, Springsteen, and, indeed, nearly all American music that followed on his dusty heels.
Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Guthrie (July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter and folk musician whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional and children's songs, ballads and improvised works.
