Viagra Boys are a Swedish post-punk band from Stockholm. The band formed in 2015, with several members coming from the bands Les Big Byrd, Pig Eyes and Nitad. In 2018, they released their debut album Street Worms. Nils Hansson, a journalist at the newspaper Dagens Nyheter described the band favorably, praising their musical style, as well as their use of black humor and satire, and rated the album a five out of five. Viagra Boys create post-punk songs in the ilk of The Men or Parquet Courts, but blues is also a distinctive vein running throughout new album Street Worms. This is infused through their ace-in-the-hole saxophone use and also Seb’s tales of woeful characters in each song– although these are not just down-on-their-luck losers, but mentally unwell societal outcasts. This is a wild, humorous and chaotic debut that immediately set the group apart. I didn't expect to be as impressed by this release, but this hits all the right notes of mocking the world around it and creating a world for itself that is diverse enough from that being released elsewhere.
