I LOVE the ALBUM and LOVE Hanoi Rocks. On Back to Mystery City, the download Tooting Bec Wrec is actually the song Dont Ever Leave me from Saigon Shakes and vice versa. On & to Mystery City', former Mott members Buffin and Overend were on hand as producers for their Scandinavian acolytes. I think & City' is as good as any of Hanoi Rocks' discs with such cuts as blistering opener "Malibu Beach Nightmare", the title track and "Tooting Bec Wreck"; these are as good as any songs in the catalog. Until I Get You" is a great ballad and much of the second half of the record is slower which is fine but maybe not as memorable.
Having so obviously worshipped at the altar of Mott the Hoople for much of their career, it's little surprise that for their fourth album Hanoi Rocks went straight to the source, getting both Dale Buffin Griffin and Pete "Overend" Watts to produce Back to Mystery City. Whatever else they brought to the sessions, the duo makes Hanoi Rocks sound like a much more powerful band than before; compared to Self Destruction Blues, the riffs are more explosive, the drumming pounding, and Michael Monroe is in full swing.
