Hittin' the Note is the twelfth and final studio album by the American Southern rock group the Allman Brothers Band. Released through Sanctuary Records, it was their first studio album to include lead slide guitar player Derek Trucks and bass player Oteil Burbridge and marked the full-time return of guitar player Warren Haynes to the band. It was also their only studio album not to include original guitarist Dickey Betts.
Hittin' the Note is the band's finest studio outing since Brothers and Sisters over 20 years before. The level of songwriting, inspiration, and execution is more than admirable; it's downright bone-chilling in places. The Allman/Haynes collaboration "Desdemona," while centered in Southern soul and earthy blues, is a rock & roll powerhouse with glorious jazz overtones à la "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" in the instrumental break.
The Allman Brothers Band's 24th album was at once like and unlike anything they had ever done before. While attempting to make their first music without Dickey Betts, they rediscovered something that used to fire the group's earliest successes: Creating together, in a room

Hittin' the Note is the twelfth and final studio album by the American Southern rock group the Allman Brothers Band. It was also their first (and only) studio album not to include original guitarist Dickey Betts. The CD was recorded live in the studio in New Jersey in December 2001 with lead vocal and minor overdubs recorded in early 2002.
Although this triumphant comeback shines through in many tracks on the album, Hittin' the Note is, simultaneously, a piece of heavy-hearted closure as what is almost undoubtedly the final chapter in the band's studio recording career. Regardless, the double-edged sword of emotional weight and jubilant triumph is a ferocious one. The album wastes no time in charging on with Firing Line in all its cruising, guitar-driven, riff centric glory.
