Straight To The Sky is a quality album from Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Backed once again with production from Full Force this has that right mix of dance club jams. With nice ballads sprinkled throughout. This album ups the ante of the freestyle sound Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam/Full Force had been known form. Mainly by adding much more percussive varieties of drum beats. Not only that but elements of acoustic salsa and what would come to be known as alternative hip-hop played into the mix. Lisa and company had always had a knack for expanding on the most modern dance sounds of their cultural back round and expanding it into a possible sound for the future. And this album really opened up that possibility for them enormously.

Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an American band and one of the first freestyle music groups to emerge from New York City in the 1980s. The band consisted of vocalist Lisa Lisa (Velez), guitarist/bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley, and drummer/keyboardist Mike Hughes.
