It's okay, and a fascinating document of its era, but it's nothing to write home about. Still, the brilliant Warren Mitchell is in fine form in his signature role as Alf Garnett, the hard-drinking, loudmouthed, bigoted working stiff. The problem is that a little Alf Garnett goes a long way. And in this flick, you get a lot of Alf.

Warren Mitchell (born Warren Misell; 14 January 1926 – 14 November 2015) was an English actor. He was a BAFTA TV Award winner and twice a Laurence Olivier Award winner. In the 1950s, Mitchell appeared on the radio programmes Educating Archie and Hancock's Half Hour. The part of Mum, played by Franklin, was recast with Dandy Nichols in the role when the programme was commissioned as a series. Mitchell's real life persona was different from Alf Garnett, being Jewish, Labour-voting and a staunch supporter of Tottenham Hotspur. The show ran from 1966 to 1975, in seven series, making a total of 53 30-minute episodes.

Tony Booth was the actor and activist best known for playing Mike Rawlins, the randy Scouse git, in the BBC television comedy series Till Death Us Do Part, from 1966 to 1975. The series starred Warren Mitchell as Alf Garnett and Booth as Mike Rawlins, the long-haired son-in-law. Unusual for its time, in attempting a realistic portrayal of East End working-class life, it pitched the reactionary Garnett – and his outspoken bigotry – against Rawlins, the younger socialist. For its outstanding cast and handling of controversy with such humour, the programme became an instant success.

His long-suffering wife Else was played by Dandy Nichols, and his daughter Rita by Una Stubbs. Rita's husband Mike Rawlins (Anthony Booth) is a socialist layabout. The character Alf Garnett became a well known character inBritish culture, and Mitchell played him on stage and television up until 1998, when Speight died. Created by Johnny Speight, Till Death Us Do Part centred on the East End Garnett family, led by patriarch Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell), a reactionary white working-class man who holds racist and anti-socialist views. His long-suffering wife Else was played by Dandy Nichols, and his daughter Rita by Una Stubbs.
