Pere Ubu. Dub Housing ‎(LP, Album). An otherwise masterful album a bit tarnished by David Thomas' awful vocals. The first 2 UBU-records could be a soundtrack to LYNCH's "Eraserhead". Nobody made music like that before. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

Pere Ubu. Dub Housing. Though Pere Ubu's tenure on Mercury lasted one record, their departure for their unlikely home of Chrysalis (at the time the label of Jethro Tull) resulted in Dub Housing, widely considered their masterpiece. Darker and more difficult than The Modern Dance (indicated by the cover's darkened apartment complex and stormy Cleveland skyline) with plenty of bleak soundscapes (. "Codex"), Dub Housing also includes "Navvy"'s bouncy burble (featuring Thomas yelping "I have desires!"), and "(Pa) Ubu Dance Party"'s surreal big beat.

Have you heard about this house? Inside, a thousand voices talk And that talk echoes around and around The windows reverberate The walls have ears A thousand saxophone voices talk. You should hear how we syllogize You should hear About how Babel fell and still echoes away How we idolize Theorize Syllogize In the dark In the heart Talk! All I hear i. .

The first song on Pere Ubu's 1979 classic Post-Punk release is an apt introduction to what can be found within the album itself. It takes just a few seconds before David Thomas is unleashed full force on the listener's ears; as usual he is an elemental force: nervy, artsy, odd, twitchy - even by Post-Punk standards. Dub Housing presents them on top form, with perfect chemistry, and perhaps it is this that allows them to pull off the unthinkable: catchy avant-garde. The contrast between the two words is just too unbearable! But while my first listen of this album didn't necessarily grab me, it's true that on my following listens I found myself remembering most parts to every song, they were catchy! Catchy! Crazy huh. But it is true Dub Housing is not at a loss for memorable moments and unique sonic qualities, the songs aren't exactly pop songs but each is jam-packed full.
