The Great Band Era is a compilation album featuring Swing music from 1936-1945. Reader's Digest released the album in 1965. In 1988, the Recording Industry Association of America certified 9 million sales of the album – making it one of the top selling albums ever within the United States.

Certain versions of WW II era songs have remained famous and are considered "classic. But music worked differently in the 1930s and 40s.

For Sentimental Reasons (1936 song). For Sentimental Reasons" is a song by Abner Silver, Al Sherman and Edward Heyman and was first released on October 18, 1936. It was recorded by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra featuring a vocal by Jack Leonard, and well as by Mildred Bailey and Her Orchestra.

In 1936, he added Lionel Hampton on vibes to form the Benny Goodman Quartet. in 1939 he added pioneering jazz guitarist Charlie Christian to his band and small. In the 1930s and 1940s he recorded fifty hit records with various singers. such as Lena Horne, Helen Ward, and Billie Holiday. from the album The Benny Goodman Sextet featuring Charlie Christian. 3.
