Held annually in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Reggae Sunsplash is the world's largest reggae festival. This excellent CD offers a sampling of some of the 1982 Sunsplash's highlights and contains performances by big names like Toots & the Maytals, Mutabaruka, Yellowman, the Gladiators, the Mighty Diamonds and the Twinkle Brothers, all of whom are in good or excellent form
Contrary to the album's unassuming title, the Tuff Gong treated Bostonians to a hardcore set, which opened with "Slave Driver" and continued into "Burnin' and Lootin'" with Bob singing "How many rivers do we have to cross before we can talk to the boss?" Backed by the Barrett brothers rhythm section and underscored by the I Threes' harmonies, the pungent sting of every word was unmistakable and unstoppable.
These recordings are taken from live performances at Reggae Sunsplash in 1987 and 1988 and are consequently not of studio quality.
