Antonín Dvorák (1841 – 1904): Violin concerto in a Minor, op. 53: 1I. Allegro ma non troppo11:31. 53 of Antonín Dvorák on the occasion of a concert with Ferenc Fricsay and the RIAS Symphony Orchestra. Although both recordings were made in the same recording room within just a few days of each other, they are markedly different, especially in their respective sounds. The radio recording, which was long thought to have been identical to the recording made for commercial release, is being issued here for the first.

The Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53 (. 08), is a concerto for violin and orchestra composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1879. It was premiered in Prague in 1883 by František Ondříček, who also gave the Vienna and London premieres. Today it remains an important work in the violin repertoire. The concerto is scored for solo violin and an orchestra consisting of 2 flutes, 2 oboes 2 clarinets (in A), 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, and strings. Its structure is the classical three movements, fast–slow–fast. Allegro ma non troppo (A minor). Johanna Martzy, RIAS Symphony Orchestra under Ferenc Fricsay,1953. Josef Suk, Czech Philharmonic under Karel Ančerl. Ilya Kaler, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Camila Kolchinsky. Georg Kulenkampff, Berliner Philarmoniker under Eugen Jochum. Violin Concerto (Nicholas Maw album).

He composed his Violin Concerto between July 5 and mid-September 1879, revising it in 1880 and then again two years later. The violinist Joseph Joachim gave a read-through of the work with Dvořák conducting the orchestra of the Berlin Hochschule in November 1882. František Ondříček was soloist for the premiere on October 14, 1883, in Prague, as well as for the Vienna premiere under Hans Richter on December 2, 1883 (in the same concert at which the Brahms Third Symphony was played for the first time)
