Aidan Baker is a musician and writer from Toronto, Canada, currently based in Berlin, Germany. Classically trained as a flutist, he is self-taught on the guitar, drums & various other instruments. As a prolific solo artist since 1999, his releases have explored the deconstructive sonic possibilities of the electric guitar as a primary sound source, creating music that ranges across genres. As well as being a founder-member of various side-projects, including Nadja, ARC, and Mnemosyne, he has also published several books of poetry & works of fiction.
Aidan Baker clearly loves to work; solo, as Nadja with Leah Buckareff, or in many many collaborations, he makes and releases enough music that you could spend a significant portion of your listening time just following his efforts. Thankfully his work generally avoids the most glaring potential pitfall of being so productive. Baker has yet to hit a point where it feels like he’s run out of ideas or is just repeating himself. The story of the album’s origins is striking. Baker had been working on these songs several years ago, lost them in a hard drive crash and eventually recovered corrupted versions of those files. Then Baker worked with (and over) those files. Anyone expecting some sort of Loops hybrid will be disappointed, though; the effects of the crash, and Baker’s subsequent work, are both going for something much more subtle.
The Snakes were a British-Norwegian hard rock band, formed by former Whitesnake members Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody in 1997. The line-up consisted of guitarists Marsden and Moody with Norwegian musicians, vocalist Jørn Lande, bassist Sid Ringsby, who later joined the Norwegian band TNT, and drummer Willy Bendiksen. The band released one live album, one studio album and broke up in 1999.
