Miles of Aisles, released in 1974, was Canadian folk singer's first live album. It was recorded during the tour for her Court and Spark album, at a time when Mitchell was arguably at the height of her powers. The album did well, being certified as a Gold album, and reaching as high as on the American Billboard charts, and 13 on the Canadian charts. She was backed on the tour (and on the LP) by the American jazz-fusion group, the . The biggest weakness here would probably be that a few of the songs are presented perhaps a little too playfully.
Joni Mitchell The . Express Miles Of Aisles Tour 1974. Her first studio album after the artistic and commercial triumph of Court And Spark and the successful double live album Miles Of Aisles, Joni Mitchell continues to forge the musical path begun on the previous album. For the recording sessions, she assembles a group of top rock and jazz musicians including Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Jeff Skunk Baxter (guitars), Joe Sample (keyboards), Wilton Felder, Max Bennett (bass), Victor Feldman (keyboards, percussion), Bud Shank (flute) and John Guerin (drums)
I saw Joni at Waco, Texas in 1975 with the . Express lineup that produced "Miles of Aisles", and cueing this set up is transportative. Tom Scott & The LA Express Am trying to track down a cheap copy of their first album, but seems to be quite collectable and therefore unobtainable. I find it hard to believe some people are not happy with this band's take on Joni's wonderful and deeply affecting songs. This version of 'Big Yellow Taxi' for instance isn't so different from versions of Joni performing it solo at the time, similar tempo and upbeat rock.
